Huge thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to the Liverpool City Council Housing Strategy Consultation.
The way this housing consultation was designed meant that it focused on homeowners and the questions repeatedly failed to speak specifically to the housing crisis within the region, especially rising levels of homelessness and precarity. By designing the answers to it how we did we wanted to encourage people to draw this to the forefront of the conversation.
As of 2022-2023, 14,932 households were on Liverpool’s social housing waiting list. Of these households, a minimum of 1,943 currently live in unsanitary, overcrowded and unsatisfactory housing and 5,427 urgently need new accommodation for medical, welfare and disability grounds. Over half of Liverpool residents rent their homes.
These are the issues we’ll keep fighting against and why we’re doing what we’re doing as Liverpool Residents Action. If you’d like to join, we’ll be announcing details of our first public meeting soon, getting to know new members and having a more personal introduction to the organisation and how you can get involved.
